Biography

A unique voice in fantasy, science fiction, and thrillers,
G. Elland Penney is a retired Museum Conservator consultant and expatriate living in Sweden. Born to a British father and Swedish mother, Penney is an avid martial artist, painter, fencer, and collector of sea shanties, a genre of traditional folk songs sung on merchant sailing vessels. Penney comes from four generations of British whalers on his father’s side, until the practice was banned in 1986. His wife Tamar is Sudanese, and their Swedish Elkhound is named Kashmyr.
Penney’s Black Sky series reflects his fondness for pulp magazines in the early 20th century. Citing Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian and the works of H. P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Edgar Rice Burroughs as inspirations, Penney blends fantasy, history, and horror with his own style.
His upcoming Point Sable series is a sharp nod to thriller and crime fiction, especially detective fiction and noir fiction popularized by Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain, Raymond Chandler, and Gerard Butler.
